New Classical Tracks - Carolyn Surrick

Ensemble Galilei and Carolyn Surrick, viola da gamba: There I Long to Be (Sono Luminus)

Carolyn Surrick is a viola da gambist who founded Ensemble Galilei 35 years ago. The group’s new two-CD compilation, which features 35 tracks, is called There I Long to Be. Surrick started the group based on the idea that how they played was more important than what they played. “Half of the people were from the traditional music world, half were from the early music world,” Surrick says. “And through the years we […] have kept to the same principles: that we want to be playing music in a way that really is deeply, deeply satisfying.” Find out more on New Classical Tracks with host Julie Amacher.
