New Classical Tracks - Lara Downes

Pianist Lara Downes – Hold These Truths; with 9 Horses and Invoke (Pentatone)

For the past year, pianist Lara Downes has been on the road searching for stories. Her journey was part of The Declaration Project, an project aimed at uniting American communities to find common ground in exploring the core essence of the country’s founding promise: the unalienable rights of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Downes saw the project as a chance to really listen to this country as it marks its 250th anniversary.

What Downes discovered along the way has also informed the music on her latest recording: Hold These Truths. Downes says the music on this album traces our roots and offers a clear reminder that we the people are the holders of our truth: We are the stewards of our past, builders of our present and designers of our future.
