New Classical Tracks - Orion Weiss

Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, countertenor and John Churchwell, piano: Uncharted (Avie)

As a child, countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen’s parents put him in the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. The ensemble had some pretty cool gigs, such as singing back up for Elton John at a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden. A few years later, Cohen was invited to be a soloist in a synagogue, where he says he learned how to shape a piece and bring meaning to the text. Later, when he was on track to study law at Princeton, he won tickets to La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera. That’s when he knew he was meant to be on the opera stage.

Recently, Cohen stopped by the Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser studio with his collaborative pianist, John Churchwell, to talk about their latest project, Uncharted. It’s a new release that goes where no countertenor has gone before. Find out more on New Classical Tracks with host Julie Amacher.
