Pianist Víkingur Ólafsson: Opus 109 (Deutsche Grammophon)

On his latest recording, pianist Víkingur Ólafsson is “orbiting around” Opus 109, the opus number of the first of Ludwig van Beethoven’s last three sonatas. This recording comes out at the end of an incredibly exciting year for Ólafsson; online, his music has received more than a billion streams, with 100 million alone for his 2023 recording of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, a recording for which he also won a Grammy Award. Additionally, Ólafsson was named the 2025 Musical America’s Instrumentalist of the Year.
