New Classical Tracks - Thomas Søndergård and Leila Josefowicz

Thomas Adès, composer: The Exterminating Angel Symphony & Violin Concerto; with the Minnesota Orchestra; Thomas Søndergård, conductor; Leila Josefowicz, violin (Pentatone)

Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård celebrates his third season with the Minnesota Orchestra with the release of their first recording together. It’s the world premiere recording of The Exterminating Angel Symphony by British composer Thomas Adès, as well as his Violin Concerto featuring Leila Josefowicz. Adès and Søndergård first worked together in Copenhagen about 20 years ago, and Josefowicz has been performing Adès’ Violin Concerto for more than 20 years. Additionally, the Minnesota Orchestra was the first professional orchestra to perform Adès’ music in the United States. All of these connections converged last season when they recorded these works live in concert at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. Find out more on New Classical Tracks with host Julie Amacher.
