New Classical Tracks - Orion Weiss

Orion Weiss, piano: Arc III (First Hand Records)

Pianist Orion Weiss has been working on a trilogy of piano recordings since 2014. The music on the first album, Arc I, is foreboding and fearful, while Arc II is about grief and loss. And now, Arc III completes the cycle with music of joy, youth and rebirth. Weiss says that when he builds a program, it's kind of like standing in front of an open refrigerator, gazing at the shelves filled with possibilities. That’s how Johannes Brahms’ Piano Sonata No. 3 became the main course on this recording. And why other unexpected composers —like Schubert, Dohnanyi and Ligeti — offer complimentary side dishes. Find out more on New Classical Tracks, with host Julie Amacher.
