New Classical Tracks - JoAnne Falletta

JoAnn Falletta, conductor: Lukas Foss: Symphony No. 1; with Amy Porter (flute), Nikke Chooi (violin) and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (Naxos)

Lukas Foss was a champion for many young conductors of his time. In fact, he was a mentor of renowned conductor JoAnn Falletta early in her career. Foss conducted the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra through the 1960s. During his tenure, he had a profound impact on the orchestra that she has now led for more than 20 years. To honor his 100th birthday, Falletta and the orchestra recently made a recording featuring Foss’ Symphony No. 1. “That connection of now being the caretaker of Lukas' orchestra led to this CD,” Falletta says. “This is a very personal CD for me because he was a friend. I worked as his associate conductor many years ago in Milwaukee, so I knew him for a long, long time before I came to Buffalo.”
