Karen Slack, with Michelle Cann — Beyond the Years: Unpublished Songs of Florence Price (Azica)

Karen Slack is an operatic soprano who has blazed her own trail. At 18, she won an international singing competition that launches young singing careers. Deep down she knew she wasn’t ready for the world stage, so she put a pause on that plan and auditioned for the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Since her time there, she has been on many opera stages, and she earned the 2022 Sphinx Medal of Excellence, along with her collaborator on her new recording, pianist Michelle Cann. That album, Beyond the Years: Unpublished Songs of Florence Price, features 19 songs, 16 of which are world-premiere recordings.
