New Classical Tracks - Danish String Quartet

Danish String Quartet: Keel Road (ECM)

“We grew up … listening and playing traditional music,” says violinist Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen, one of the founding members of the Danish String Quartet. “And, so it's a really big part of our musical DNA in many ways. And, at some point, we decided to try out how this music would sound for string quartet.” The result years later is the third collection of folk songs given the DSQ treatment, Keel Road. This time, the ensemble has ventured beyond fare from Scandinavia, including the Danish ditty “Once a Shoemaker” (below), and included a few traditional tunes from England and Ireland. Find out more on New Classical Tracks, with guest host Valerie Kahler.
