Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan says studying with legendary pianist Leon Fleisher was a transformative moment in his life. For six weeks, they worked on just four pieces: sonatas by Franz Schubert.

It took an incredible amount of focus and concentration to plumb to the depths of the complex music, and Barnatan says the experience changed how he approaches music. Not just Schubert, but Mendelssohn, Debussy and Ravel as well.

Performance Today host Fred Child sat down with Barnatan for a two-part conversation in the famed Steinway Hall, home to the world's most famous pianos in New York. Click to listen to Barnatan's insights on music and his exclusive performances of music recorded at Steinway Hall.
