Getting to Know Tina O’Malley, 2026 Karin Larson YourClassical Prize Winner

Watch a studio session with soprano Tina O’Malley of New Brighton, Minnesota, who won the 2026 Karin Larson YourClassical Prize in the Preprofessional Musician category.

In this extended conversation with YourClassical host Julie Amacher, O’Malley talks about finding her voice, why she loves theater and opera, and what made her apply for the prize. She also explains her commitment to championing living women composers, and how music keeps her close to home and to her brother, whom she helps care for.

As part of the prize, O’Malley received a cash award and a recording session in Minnesota Public Radio’s Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser Studio, where these videos were recorded. She is accompanied by pianist Carson Rose Schneider.

Applications for the 2027 Karin Larson YourClassical Prize open Feb. 1, 2027. The prize celebrates women in classical music, and winners receive a cash award and a recording session in Minnesota Public Radio’s Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser Studio.
