Max Steiner: Hollywood Legend

Max Steiner: Hollywood Legend

On this week’s episode of Saturday Cinema, host Lynne Warfel talks with Emmy-nominated producer and author Steven C. Smith about his recent book The Music of Max Steiner: The Epic Life of Hollywood's Most Influential Film Composer.  Smith also has written and produced more than 200 biographies and documentaries for A&E's Biography series, appeared on Turner Classic Movies and presented for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Find out about Steiner’s early life as a wunderkind in Vienna, his arrival in the United States working on Broadway and his quick move to Hollywood, where at 41 he embarked on an amazing film career, one that has influenced many contemporary composers. The music includes selections from Now, Voyager, Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, The Searchers, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Dark Victory, The Informer and A Summer Place.
