Every weekday at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call these works Morning Glories.

We're declaring this week Bachtoberfest on Morning Glories, highlighting the music of J. S. Bach. Did you know that his home in Leipzig had an alcove especially for the beer barrel?

Every weekday in the 10 am hour, you can raise a glass with beverage of your choice to Johann Sebastian, as we listen to five of his works, played by an array of outstanding musicians.

Monday

Concerto for Flute and Oboe
Enjoy this 1982 performance by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, as their new broadcast season begins tonight at 8.

Tuesday

Keyboard Partita No. 3
Speaking of the SPCO, Jeremy Denk, who performs on this recording, is a new Artistic Partner of the Orchestra. He'll appear here later this month.

Wednesday

Violin Concerto No. 1
Here's a brand-new release from Joshua Bell — the first Bach album of his career.

Thursday

Flute Sonata, BWV 1032
Musicians love to arrange and rearrange Bach's works. Here's an example, with an appealing combination: flutist Marina Piccinini, and the Brasil Guitar Duo.

Friday

Orchestral Suite No. 4
The Toronto group Tafelmusik, led by Jeanne Lamon, who retired as the group's music director this year, after a long and distinguished tenure.
