Today at the State Fair: University of Minnesota & Friends Trombone Ensemble

Today at 2 p.m., the University of Minnesota & Friends Trombone Ensemble will perform at the MPR booth at the State Fair, located near the corner of Judson and Nelson. John Birge hosts.

The ensemble had its first performance on the MPR stage at the 2009 Minnesota State Fair; John Birge hosted that performance as well. The Ensemble includes members of the University of Minnesota Trombone Choir, University of Minnesota alumni as well as student and professional trombonists from the Twin Cities area.

Founded in 1990 by University of Minnesota Trombone Professor Tom Ashworth, the University of Minnesota Trombone Choir is composed of undergraduate bachelor of arts, music therapy, music education and performance majors, as well as graduate students pursuing Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. It is also open to talented Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (i.e. high school) students and university-level non-majors.

The University of Minnesota Trombone Choir has performed at numerous local, regional, national and international music symposia; most recently, it performed at the 2011 University of Minnesota Collage Concert, the 2011 Upper Midwest Trombone Summit, the 2012 Minnesota State Fair, the 2012 Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington, D.C., and the 2013 Minnesota Music Educators In-Service Conference.
