Composer Scott Joplin is best known for his ragtime piano compositions that include ‘The Maple Leaf Rag’ and ‘The Entertainer.’ Like many other Black artists, it was difficult for him to branch out from the one type of composition he was known for. Joplin also wrote operas and a ballet, which never had the success his piano works achieved.
