2025 was a significant year for soprano Claudia Diaz: she won first place in the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition, she was one of the Colorado-Wyoming District Winners of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, and she made her symphonic debut with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. In the same year, Diaz was awarded the Audience Choice Award at the Rocky Mountain Music Regional Competition. She was also named a Performance Today Young Artist-in-Residence for 2026.
Diaz, a proud Puertorriqueña, fell in love with singing opera music at a young age, and she followed her dream of performance all the way from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music in San Juan to the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver in Colorado, where she obtained a Performance Certificate in Voice Performance and a Master of Music degree in 2024. A formidable opera singer, Diaz has performed the title role of Suor Angelica in Giacomo Puccini’s "Suor Angelica" with the Lamont Opera Theater. Other title roles include Mademoiselle Silberklang in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s "Der Schauspieldirektor", Anna Bolena in Gaetano Donizetti’s "Anna Bolena", and Helena in Benjamin Britten’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream".
Whether she’s stealing your heart on stage or disarming you at a chance meeting with her effervescent personality, Diaz’s magnetic charm coupled with her bold and expressive vocal quality makes her absolutely captivating. She’s the kind of person who’ll keep your secrets and will bring you napkins and utensils before you think to grab them for yourself. She gives the best hugs you’ll ever have and tells stories that are just as colorful as the songs she sings in any opera.
Diaz is currently pursuing her Artist Diploma in Opera Studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in California.
