Performance Today names four students its 2026 Young Artists in Residence

YourClassical’s Performance Today, America’s most popular classical music radio show, announces the four distinguished young musicians who have been selected as part of Performance Today Young Artists in Residence program. Each year, Performance Today works with the top music conservatories from around the country to identify the most promising talent to take part in the program.

This year’s cohort of young musicians hail from around the country and will have the opportunity to interview and perform for nationwide radio broadcast with Performance Today host Valerie Kahler. The musicians will also participate in outreach to elementary- and middle-school students in Minnesota.

“Like many Performance Today listeners, I have loved getting to know these young artists through their conversations and performances. It’s been a delight to connect with the future stars of classical music, and a thrill to follow their careers,” said Valerie Kahler, host of Performance Today. “This year’s young artists are incredibly talented and represent some of the best young musicians in the United States. I look forward to sharing their talents on Performance Today!”

Short bios from each young artist can be found below.

PT Weekend: Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture

PT Weekend: Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture

Despite the English horn’s misleading name—it’s neither English nor a horn—the instrument produces a famously "angelic" sound that takes center stage in Hector Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture. Berlioz originally composed the music for his opera Benvenuto Cellini. Though the opera flopped, he salvaged its best melodies to create an orchestral centerpiece. In today's episode, Andrés Orozco-Estrada leads the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in a concert performance of the Roman Carnival Overture.

Starr Parodi goes with the flow

Starr Parodi goes with the flow

In the 1990s, composer Starr Parodi had a frightening encounter with a South Pacific riptide. She drew an inspirational parallel from that experience to a much more recent tragedy: the 2025 Pacific Palisades fire that destroyed her home and studio. Through both events, she discovered that resilience often comes from letting go rather than fighting the flow. On today's show, Delyana Lazarova conducts the ensemble ROCO in Starr Parodi's meditation on surrender, Riptide.
