Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes made his fourth appearance (and his first since 2012) with the Schubert Club as part of its International Artists Series last March. A renowned champion of the works of his countryman Edvard Grieg, Andsnes opened the program with the composer’s only piano sonata, followed by Norwegian composer and pianist Geirr Tveitt’s Piano Sonata No. 29 (Sonata Etere). The second half was devoted to Frédéric Chopin’s 24 Preludes, offering a rare opportunity to hear the complete set performed live. Listen to the concert now!

In February 2023, Schubert Club’s Artistic & Executive Director, Barry Kempton, arranged to meet Leif Ove Andsnes at the Steinway & Sons showroom in Hamburg, Germany, where employees there had lined up a "fleet" of pianos for Andsnes to try. The piano Andsnes selected was then purchased and brought to St. Paul. Andsnes later performed on that very same piano in March. Learn more about Andsnes and this performance in our review of the concert from earlier this year.
