YourClassical celebrates Public Radio Music Day 2025

On Wednesday, Oct. 29, YourClassical MPR will participate in sixth annual Public Media Music Day. In the wake of massive funding cuts to public media, this year's celebration is more important than ever. 

This year’s theme — Live. Local. Essential. — highlights the vital role public radio music stations play in communities across America. Local stations connect their communities and their support of live performances; they bolster musicians and music economies. And they play an essential role in preserving regional history and culture. 

We will participate by sharing some special programming that leans into our ability to bring live, local music to life.

Public Media Music Day on YourClassical MPR

Join us on Wednesday as we celebrate the musicians and arts organizations in your community!

• 7:15 a.m. and 5 p.m.: New Classical Tracks highlights the Minnesota Orchestra’s upcoming new album, Adès: The Exterminating Angel Symphony & Violin Concerto. The album was recorded live at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis on Sept. 26-28, 2024. Violin soloist Leila Josefowicz joins conductor Thomas Søndergård and the Minnesota Orchestra in performances that were originally aired in a live, local broadcast last fall.

• 8:45 a.m.: Hear an interview and performance featuring singers from the upcoming MN Opera performance of Così fan tutte recorded in Minnesota Public Radio’s Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser Studio.

• 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.: Enjoy a full hour of live, recorded performances from artists and organizations in the Minnesota community.

• 7 p.m.: It’s an encore broadcast of "New Day: A Choral Anthem for a New Era." This special features the National Lutheran Choir, performing a new work by Minnesota composer Jocelyn Hagen, hosted by Steve Staruch.
