Extra Eclectic

Percussion for the night hours

Extra Eclectic - July 24, 2024

Does the word “percussion” always have to mean things that go “bang” and “thwack?” Not this week on Extra Eclectic, where host Steve Seel brings us two hours of percussive sounds with an emphasis on the more overtly tuned variety: vibraphones, bells, marimbas, and yes, that giant percussion instrument in a box, the piano. We hear works from Takashi Yoshimatsu’s Piano Concerto “Memo Flora,” John Luther Adams’ The Farthest Place, and more.
