Extra Eclectic

Bryce Dessner: a composer for the 21st century

Extra Eclectic - May 22, 2024

There was a time you couldn’t expect to be taken seriously if you were a rock musician and attempted writing classical music (or vice-versa). Today, those old orthodoxies are gone, and there are a host of classically-trained rock artists who work comfortably in both spheres. Bryce Dessner is one of those, and he’s equally at home writing classical works as he is playing guitar in the critically-acclaimed band The National. Steve Seel features his Concerto for Two Pianos on the latest edition of Extra Eclectic.
