Extra Eclectic

Chalk has no restraints in Sofia Gubaidulina's ‘Fairytale Poem’

Extra Eclectic - Oct. 19, 2022

Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina's Fairytale Poem can be seen as an allegory for life under an oppressive regime and how a child's piece of chalk can be a metaphor for imagination unchained from such constraints. Host Steve Seel features Gubaidulina's work along with some of the "bowed piano" music of composer Stephen Scott, works by Johann Johannsson, Jennifer Higdon and more.
