City Noir

City Noir

Composer John Adams’ “City Noir” takes the genre of film noir and the seedy underworld of 1940s California as it’s starting point, painting a sonic picture of “menace and melodrama,” as The Times of London put it. Adams’ symphonic tour-de-force is one of the major works on this weeks’ show, along with music by Huw Watkins, Meredith Monk, Jennifer Bellor, and more. Ward Jacobsen guest hosts.
