It’s a thought-provoking exploration of composers “getting outside” some of the standard assumptions and approaches of Western classical music on this weeks show - including a few examples of non-Western tuning and alternate scales. Steve Seel features John Adams’ “The Dharma at Big Sur,” scored in just intonation, and the music of Michael Harrison, whose modified grand piano features the ability to play 24 notes per octave.
