Young Artist in Residence - Ifetayo Ali-Landing

Sixteen-year-old powerhouse cellist Ifetayo Ali-Landing is the youngest PT Young Artist in this year's program. She was the First Place Laureate in the Junior Division at the 2017 Sphinx Competition in Detroit, Michigan and she was the Second Place Laureate in 2016.

She has performed with such orchestras as the New World Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Chicago Sinfonietta among others.

In 2013, Ali-Landing was honored at the Friends of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra Rising Stars Showcase, where she recorded the first movement of the Cello Concerto No. 1 by Camille Saint-Saens. Since that time, the video has had more than 88,000 YouTube views and over 11 million views on Facebook.

The Chicago native will begin undergraduate studies this fall at the Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles, California.

Ifetayo was joined in the studio by pianist Martial Besombes.

Julio Medaglia

Composer Julio Medaglia was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1938. He studied conducting in Germany for ten years before returning to Brazil to conduct and compose. For 30 years, he hosted a daily radio show in São Paulo that sounded similar to PT, combining concert highlights and contemporary music. On today's show, we'll hear the Imani Winds play Julio Medaglia's 'Belle Epoque en Sud-America,’ including a really fun movement named "Crazy Baby Clarinette!"
