Celebrate Michael Barone's 50th anniversary at MPR and more with a free concert

Celebrate with us Sunday, Sept. 23, as Minnesota Public Radio — in conjunction with the Twin Cities Chapter of the American Guild of Organists — salutes Michael Barone on his 50th anniversary with MPR and the 35th anniversary of his nationally syndicated Pipedreams broadcast.

Join us at the Wooddale Church (6630 Shady Oak Rd.) in Eden Prairie for a special public reception (beginning at 2 p.m.) and performance event (3 p.m., with additional reception following) of varied and colorful music featuring the largest pipe organ in Minnesota — all free.

Guest soloists include Raymond Johnston (St. Mark's Cathedral, Minneapolis), Kathrine Handford (Lawrence University, Appleton, Wis.), Jessica Park (University of St. Thomas Chapel), Robert Vickery (Holy Childhood Church, St. Paul), Jacob Benda (Nativity Catholic Church, Bloomington), David Cherwien (National Lutheran Choir/Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Minneapolis), Melanie Ohnstad (Westminster Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis), Catherine Rodland (St. Olaf College, Northfield) and Michael Unger (University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music). Repertoire includes works by Minnesota composers Stephen Paulus, Paul Manz and Richard Proulx, Thomas Kerr, Calvin Taylor, Mary Beth Bennett, Robert Hebble and Daniel Gawthrop, and the Minnesota premiere of two new preludes and fugues by Henry Martin (Rutgers University, N.J.), part of a 24-piece cycle commissioned by Pipedreams.
