Every weekday at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call them Morning Glories.
Saturday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day. One of the pieces of classical music frequently associated with Veterans Day is Maurice Ravel's Piano Concerto for the Left Hand. The work was commissioned by Paul Wittgenstein, a pianist and World War I vet who lost his right arm during the war. This week for Morning Glories, we will hear Ravel's Piano Concerto for the Left Hand in addition to other works for the left hand.
Monday
Charles Alkan: Etude for the Left Hand Alone
Tuesday
Alexander Scriabin: Nocturne for the Left Hand
Wednesday
Camille Saint-SaËns: Six Etudes for Piano Left hand: Selections
Thursday
Maurice Ravel: Piano Concerto for the Left Hand
Friday
Franz Schmidt: Variations on a Theme by Josef Labor
