Moveable Feast: Reviewing our 2015 food trend picks

We've reached the end of 2015, so it's time to take a look back at the last year's predictions on food trends!

How did last year's predictions pan out? Well, Rachel notes that she was wrong on some emerging trends: back bacon and house-made processed foods like homemade Cheez Whiz and Twinkies. They didn't take off like she thought they might.

Her "what's out" predictions, however, were better: cupcakes, pomegranate juice, and Mason jars now seem quite dated.

One surprise trend for 2015: crudo. Three Italian eateries with specific raw menus popped up in quick succession, seemingly out of nowhere. It's unlikely that crudo is going to catch on with our cold climate, and it's a little pricey for our value-oriented dining scene. But it would be great to see Hawaiian-style poke — cubed raw fish with Asian seasonings — be more prevalent here. It's common in supermarket delis on the islands but almost impossible to find at restaurants here in the Twin Cities.
