On Veterans Day we collectively celebrate those who have — or are still — serving their country.
Nov. 11 is called Veterans Day in the United States, but it is observed in many other countries and is often called Remembrance Day. Its original name was Armistice Day, and it marked the end of World War I, which concluded on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
Veterans Day is different from Memorial Day. Today, we'll commemorate service for those who have gone as well as for those still with us — so the music for Veterans Day can be solemn but also uplifting. Listen as we explore music from the United States and from other nations that mark this holiday.
