Each July, the magazine selects an iconic "bucket list" type Minnesota trip to take. This year, it's Itasca State Park, home to the headwaters of the Mississippi.
It's surprising how small the river is at the headwaters — it's more like a creek and you can hop a few rocks and cross it without getting your shoes wet.
There are some beautiful old-growth forests, great biking, hiking, and canoeing. And if you don't want to stay in a tent, there's the grand CCC-built Douglas Lodge, plus several other small log cabins from that era.
It's a beautiful area, with a quaint, nostalgic feel.
