The sultry sound of the guitar has long been associated with Spain, popular with Spanish composers as far back as the Baroque era. The development of the modern guitar in the late 19th century, and establishment of conservatory programs in Madrid and Barcelona dedicated to modern technique, cemented the guitar's fame.
This week on Morning Glories, we'll hear the exotic melodies and syncopated dance-like rhythms of this quintessentially Spanish instrument, conjuring scenes of midday siestas under flowery jacaranda trees or late-night glasses of tempranillo at a lively tapas bar. It's the ideal soundtrack for these long sunny days and warm nights.
