Moveable Feast: Cuba

Moveable Feast: Cuba

Victor's 1959 Café is the place to go for Cuban food. The co-founder Victor Valens was originally from Cuba and with no other Cuban restaurants in the Twin Cities, starting an establishment focused on the cuisine of his homeland seemed an obvious choice.

After he and his wife, Niki Stavrou, split up, she took over the business but it's still the same authentic Cuban fare: ropa vieja, Cuban sandwiches, plantains, yucca, etc.

The ambiance is really fun and wonderful: the tiny, funky space is decorated with lots of colorful art, signage, graffiti, but there's limited seating. Even with the summer patio open, there are often long waits.
