Morning Glories: Choir of St. Paul's Cathedral

This month brings another outstanding choral event to Minnesota, with the arrival of the Choir of St. Paul's Cathedral (London). The Choir, which can look back on nine centuries of tradition, will appear live in St. Paul (Minnesota) on April 28. As we look forward to welcoming our visitors from Britain, we'll get in the mood with five Morning Glories reflecting that country's history and heritage.

Monday

Handel: Royal Fireworks Music

In 1749, Londoners were treated to a grand fireworks display, to commemorate a peace treaty. But where would pomp and pageantry be without music?

Tuesday

Clementi: Great National Symphony

The Italian composer Muzio Clementi found appreciative audiences in his adopted country of Britain. He returned the favor in this symphony with a pronounced patriotic flavor.

Wednesday

Vaughan Williams: London Symphony

This symphony begins and ends quietly — but in between, it captures all the variety and driving energy of the great city.

Thursday

Sullivan: Victoria and Merrie England (selections)

It's Sullivan without Gilbert in this work commemorating Queen Victoria's jubilee.

Friday

Coates: London Suite

If you've visited London, you may remember the sites evoked in this suite: Covent Garden, Westminster, and Knightsbridge.
