Carl Lundstrom is an Internal Medicine specialist at the Mayo Clinic. He describes his job as a cross between a detective and a conductor. He's a detective when seeking the source of his patients' problems and a conductor when he puts together an ensemble of treatments.

Carl is also a cancer survivor. He says it's made him a better doctor. Choral music is at the heart of his playlist.

Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 2 (excerpt), with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment conducted by Charles Mackerras with pianist, Emmanuel Ax. Sony 63371

Barber: Violin Concerto (finale), with the SPCO conducted by Hugh Wolff and violinist, Hilary Hahn. Sony 89029

Traditional: O Makalösa Stjärna, sung by Håkan Hagegård.

Suk: Idyll, performed by pianist, Antonin Kubalek. Dorian 90121

Traditional: "From the Banks of Jordan" sung by the National Lutheran Choir conducted by Larry Fleming. NLC 102

Next week: Patricia Connors has conducted choirs at St Kate's University since 1991. Choral classics and show tune or two round out her playlist.
