For our weekly feature, "Moveable Feast," Rachel Hutton of Minnesota Monthly joins John Birge to talk about where to go and what to eat in Minnesota.

Butterball may the country's best-selling turkey, but the wild or heritage breeds provide a more sustainable, humane alternative. In addition, heritage turkeys tend to have a deeper, richer flavor. A number of Minnesota poultry farmers raise wild, heritage, free-range, or organic birds, which can be ordered directly from the grower, at a local farmers market, from a butcher, or at a co-op. It's a good idea to get your request in by early November, but you may still be able to find one if you call around to different places.

Clancey's Meat & Fish in Linden Hills is a good source for these birds, or you can order from Farmers Market regulars such as Bar Five Poultry or Callister Farm, both located in southern Minnesota. Another place to try is Wild Acres near Pequot Lakes, which is a farm that supplies a lot of high-end restaurants with wild duck and game birds. Or you could always try hunting a wild turkey yourself!
