Click on Classical: From Massachusetts to Minnesota, and from Minnesota to Massachusetts

Every Monday morning, I join John Birge on Classical MPR to discuss stories we're featuring on our website. Here are the stories we're talking about today. Tanglewood — summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) — figures in two of our stories this week.

First, we have the story of Francesca Anderegg. She's a violinist who grew up in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts — near Tanglewood. That experience helped inspire her to become a professional musician, and after studying at Harvard and Juilliard, she took a job teaching violin at St. Olaf. I met Francesca and learned more about her life and work.

Meanwhile, Conor McDonald is a young baritone who grew up in Minneapolis and spent this summer out in Tanglewood, where he was one of the stars of a BSO-produced Web series that's fascinating — though maybe not in quite the way the orchestra had hoped.

Courtney Lewis, formerly associate conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra, has a new gig as music director of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in Florida. Our writer Emily Michael was there as Lewis conducted his first season concert: Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique. How'd he do?
