On Monday, Aug. 25, at 2 p.m., Minnesota Boychoir will perform at the MPR booth at the State Fair, located near the corner of Judson and Nelson.

According to its website, the Minnesota Boychoir is the oldest boy choir in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, having been founded in 1962.

Mark Johnson is the artistic director of Minnesota Boychoir, and we asked him some very State Fair-specific questions ahead of Monday's performance.

What is the most popular State Fair food item among the boys? And what's your favorite food item, Mark?

They love corn dogs and cotton candy … wonder if they will ever come up with a cotton candy-flavored batter for the hot dog?

Hands down, my all-time favorite State Fair food is deep fried Snickers. Just look at me!

Besides food, what is the most popular State Fair exhibit or attraction for the group?

Any animal barn — and especially the birthing barn — is quite popular for the boys. The Giant Slide is also a favorite — it would be great to get them all going down at once and maybe singing something on the slide down!

My favorite attraction? Butter heads.

Here's a question just for you, Mark: Will you be seeking out other musical performances to attend at the Fair?

I seek out as much live music as I can, whether on the Grandstand Main Stage or any other stage on the fairgrounds.

As the director of the group, what is a favorite or standout memory you have of a Minnesota Boychoir performance at the MPR booth at the State Fair?

I love hearing them sing and adding their voices to the musical soundtrack we hear and call the "Great Minnesota Get-Together" There is something pretty unique and special about singing live tunes next to the "Guess Your Weight" and "Snake and Reptile" booth while gasping the smells of pork-chop-on-a-stick on a steamy, hot, Fair day in front of MPR and Boychoir fans!

Minnesota Boychoir will perform on Monday, Aug. 25, at 2 p.m., at the MPR booth near the corner of Judson and Nelson at the Minnesota State Fair. Classical MPR's Steve Staruch hosts the performance.
