Without fanfare, Bob Dylan has just released a cover of the 1945 song "Full Moon & Empty Arms," best known in the version recorded that year by Frank Sinatra. A representative for the artist confirmed that the track will appear on a new Bob Dylan album — possibly with the title above, fans are speculating based on this art posted by the artist — later this year.
Classical music fans will recognize the melody: it's based on the third movement of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor. Ted Mossman, who co-wrote the song with Buddy Kaye, was known for adapting the classics in this manner; another example is the 1945 Mossman/Kaye number "Till the End of Time," a hit for Perry Como based on Chopin's Polonaise in A flat major.
