As the deadline for Minnesota Varsity submissions approaches (Jan. 9), here's a look at and a listen to last year's Minnesota Varsity Showcase Concert. If you're a teen musician, can you imagine yourself on this stage? The deadline for submissions to this year's Minnesota Varsity is Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014.
Minnesota Varsity's Showcase Concert on April 28, 2013, was a sparkling finale to the Classical MPR high school classical music initiative's third season. The concert was broadcast live on all Classical MPR stations throughout Minnesota; and if that wasn't enough, it was rebroadcast on Tuesday, May 7. You can listen to the concert right now, using the audio player on this page.
The 2013 Showcase Concert featured performances by Luna String Quartet, Hartman-Warren-Doyle Trio, pianist Megan Ruan, and singers Eric Sargent and Kristina Butler. It also featured the premieres of works by Showcase Composers Austin Kraft and Grant Luhmann.
For more blossoming musicians, Minnesota Varsity provides the chance to have their music played on the air on Classical MPR or streamed online here on classicalmpr.org. The carefully selected Showcase Artists get the chance to perform on the stage at the Fitzgerald Theater in a showcase concert that is broadcast all over the state.
What's more, several Minnesota Varsity alumni have been offered college scholarships based on their participation in Varsity.
Could the next Minnesota Varsity success story be yours? You'll never know unless you try. Be sure to submit your performance recording by next Thursday, Jan. 9. Find more info at classicalmpr.org/varsity.
