As a kid in his native Mexico, one of Alberto Fierro's chores was to water the family plants. Thinking that the plants would like to hear some music while he watered, he learned how to play LPs on the family hi-fi.

So began a life-long love of classical music. Fierro is the Mexican Consul in the Twin Cities and my guest this week on Music with Minnesotans. His playlist is eclectic and wide-ranging.

Alberto Fierro's playlist:

Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 3 (opening) Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Pierre Boulez (DG 474 038)

JS Bach: Cantata No. 80 (chorale) Monteverdi Choir conducted by John Eliot Gardiner (Soli Deo Gloria 110)

Eugenio Toussaint: Jungle Chungle performed by Tambuco (Dorian 90245)

Manuel Ponce: Intermezzo Jorge Federico Osorio, piano (ASV 874)

Arturo Marquez: Danzon No. 2 Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra conducted by Gustavo Dudamel (DG 13458)
