This May the Spring for Music festival returned to Carnegie Hall, showcasing some of North America's most exciting orchestras.

The festival featured the Houston Symphony, the Edmonton Symphony, the New Jersey Symphony, the Alabama Symphony, the Milwaukee Symphony and the Nashville Symphony. Each of the innovative programs was unique and demonstrated the vitality of classical music today: from rarely heard works by Varese and Busoni to New York premieres by Paul Lansky and Avner Dorman paired with Beethoven.

On Tuesday, June 19, at 8 p.m., hear music director Edo de Waart conduct the Milwaukee Symphony in a French inspired program of Messiaen's Les offrandes oubliees, Debussy's La Mer, and Qigang Chen's Iris devoilee. Mr. Chen, Chinese born and now a French citizen, has lived in France since 1984. Conversely, both Messiaen and Debussy studied in China separately. Joining the orchestra will be soloists Xiaoduo Chen, soprano; Meng Meng, Beijing Opera soprano; Wu Man, pipa; Hong Wang, erhu; and Yang Yi, zheng.
