Getting Personal With Handel

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of George Frideric Handel's death. To mark the occasion, the Handel House Museum in London (located in the same building in which Messiah was written and in which Handel died) is putting together an exhibit focusing on Handel's personal life.

Really personal: his love of food, his health, and his finances. "The personal aspects of Handel are very shadowy and it would be nice to fill out the man," said Edward Blakeman, program editor for BBC Radio 3.

Seems to me that's the kind of exhibit one could only mount long after the subject is dead.

Read more about the exhibit here. (And if you can figure out what that second Christopher Hogwood quote says, you're more intuitive than I am.) See what else the Handel House has planned for "Handel 2009" here.
