Muti Gets Snooty

Remember the old story about Beethoven getting uppity with a Prince? "There are and will be thousands of princes; but there is only one Beethoven." Well, princes are harder to come by these days, but apparently there is only one Muti.

Conductor Riccardo Muti was scheduled to lead the Philharmonia Orchestra in a private performance in Buckingham Palace this Thursday, part of the 60th birthday celebration for Charles, the Prince of Wales. When the guest of honor and his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, dared to question Muti's program (perhaps it was a bit too long? not quite appropriate?), Muti took his baton and went home.

Read the whole story (including why the Queen was already a bit peeved with Maestro Muti) here.
