Hannah Kendall's 'Spark Catchers' describes fire

Extra Eclectic - Nov. 01, 2023

Hannah Kendall's The Spark Catchers is an evocative interpretation of a poem (by English poet Lemn Sissay) about women who worked in match factories in the 1800s, tasked with dousing stray sparks that might accidentally ignite an inferno. It's filled with kinetic energy and driving rhythms, and Steve Seel features it in the first hour of Extra Eclectic. In the second hour, it's an exploration of the ever-lengthening nights of autumn with music about nighttime, stillness, dreaming and nostalgia.
