Lost for 182 years and wrongly attributed to her brother Felix, Fanny Mendelssohn’s Easter Sonata was finally recognized as her own in 2010. Pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason highlights the work’s hymn-like textures as signatures of Fanny’s distinctive musical voice. On today’s show, Kanneh-Mason performs this long-hidden masterpiece at a concert at the University of Georgia Performing Arts Center in Athens.

"Of a Spring Morning" is one of the last pieces Lili Boulanger composed before her death at age 24. Though she was essentially on her deathbed, the music doesn’t even hint at mortality. Composer Viet Cuong recently took an inventive approach to a piece commissioned by Houston-based ROCO. He mapped his family members' astrological signs—Virgo, Aries, Sagittarius, and Leo—onto ROCO’s seating chart; the star placements determined a small ensemble that interacts with the rest of the chamber orchestra, essentially creating a concerto grosso.
