Celebrated Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen will make her highly anticipated debut for the Schubert Club International Artist Series at the Ordway. Joined by her acclaimed recital partner, pianist James Baillieu, Davidsen will deliver an intimate, all-Schubert program that spans the vast emotional depth of human experience, from intense rapture to tragic encounters with death.

The carefully curated performance features iconic masterpieces like Gretchen am Spinnrade alongside haunting narrative ballads such as Der Zwerg and Der Tod und das Mädchen.

Soprano Tina O’Malley, winner of the 2026 Karin Larson YourClassical Prize, performs “Regnava nel silenzio” from Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor with pianist Carson Rose Schneider.

Lucia di Lammermoor premiered at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples in 1835 and is based on Sir Walter Scott’s novel The Bride of Lammermoor. In this piece, Lucia waits by a fountain to meet her secret love, Edgardo. She tells her companion, Alisa, about the ghost of a woman who was killed at the fountain by one of Edgardo’s Ravenswood ancestors. The aria is an iconic example of Donizetti’s bel canto writing for soprano.

In this extended conversation with YourClassical host Julie Amacher, O’Malley talks about finding her voice, why she loves theater and opera, and what made her apply for the prize. She also explains her commitment to championing living women composers, and how music keeps her close to home and to her brother, whom she helps care for.

As part of the prize, O’Malley received a cash award and a recording session in Minnesota Public Radio’s Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser Studio, where these videos were recorded. She is accompanied by pianist Carson Rose Schneider.

Applications for the 2027 Karin Larson YourClassical Prize open Feb. 1, 2027. The prize celebrates women in classical music, and winners receive a cash award and a recording session in Minnesota Public Radio’s Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser Studio. The Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies (GTCYS) is the largest youth orchestra program in the country, serving more than 1300 students through its 11 school-year orchestras, camps and community initiatives.
