Why did you choose this piece?
I chose this repertoire because I wanted to play a recognizable song that people are familiar with, so that they can enjoy it as much as me. My goal was to show my musicianship while also challenging myself at the same time. This piece is adapted from Bizet's famous opera Carmen, including many of the well-known themes of the opera, so it is easier for people less interested in classical music to listen to. A final reason I selected this piece is that it includes many musical techniques, which pushed me to practice it a lot. My goal was to improve as a player through the process of auditioning, so no matter what I became a better player.
